Thank you for visiting the Gumnuts
website. Gumnuts Farm
& Horseriding Resort is a 140-acre horse farm nestled
in the picturesque Biddaddaba Valley, on the edge of the
Scenic Rim, in between Beaudesert, the Gold Coast and
Brisbane City and close to all the wonderful Sub-tropical
rainforests that are a part of the National Parks Estate
in this region. |

The word “Biddaddaba”
is a local aboriginal word referring to the Australian
Monarch Butterfly, which during certain times of the year
come to this valley from all around to reproduce.
The farm is set in rolling hills interwoven by the sparkling
Biddaddaba Creek. The natural wildlife of Kangaroos, possums,
and native birds as well as the farms horses, lambs, goats,
and of course “Dolly” the cow are always popular. |

Q. How did Gumnuts get its name?
A. The inspiration for our
name comes from the ‘Gumnut babies’ series
of children’s stories that were written by the author
May Gibbs. Jenny Webster (mum) is a big fan of the series
and originally wished to use that name. However as both
her husband Colin and son James objected to being referred
to as “Gumnut babies” and the fact that the
family was uncertain of any ‘trademark law’
issues on the use of that name; it was decided to settle
for the name Gumnuts. |

 |
Q. Aside from our happy customers,
what is a Gumnut?
A. The Gum tree is the common
name given to the Eucalypt trees that are found all over
Australia. (There are more than 3000 species and they
keep discovering new ones.) Every spring if the season
is good these trees produce a flower, which then forms
into a seedpod that is referred to as the ‘Gumnut.’ |
