Gumnuts Camps
Gumnuts runs Educational Camps
and Music Camps during term time, and Holiday Camps during
the holidays. We also do Farm Visits, for vacation care
groups.
Our activities include horseriding, whipcracking, boomerang
throwing, team games, cow milking, orienteering and environmental
walks. Wildlife abounds, and we feed possums and lorikeets
daily. |
|
| |
Activities:
Our orienteering
course takes about one hour, and is fully supervised by
our staff, who teach the students how to use a compass
and find their way through the bush (which is full of
kangaroos and other wildlife).
Students are taught how to safely
build and light a fire.
They then proceed to cook their own lunch, of sausage
and damper. |

Horseriding -
is a great outdoor sport - Aussie students have a strong
historical connection to horseriding, and they really
enjoy it and learn a great deal about themselves. Our
qualified staff conduct all horseriding, and we comply
with all Education Department guidelines.
However horseriding is not compulsory, and we can build
your camp around alternative activities if desired. Students
can then be escorted on Trail Rides, from half an hour
to two and a half hours duration. |

Cow-milking
- Many students, particularly young ones, often have not
thought of where milk actually comes from, and there are
always plenty of squeals with this activity, even with
high school students. DOLLY our cow is very gentle and
loves children.
Students love feeding our
lambs and baby goats, who
are extremely friendly. Even adults enjoy this activity.
Boomerang Throwing
is very popular. The dynamics of the boomerang are briefly
explained, and students are shown how, then put their
skills into practice. |
 |
|
| |
 |
Whipcracking
- Groups of approximately 25 students are shown how to
crack the whip, and then, wearing helmet and goggles or
glasses, are at first shown how, to get the feel of the
activity, and then allowed to try for themselves.
During the day the Lorikeets
are fed, at the front of the complex. At night, after
dinner, we feed the Possums,
who are also very tame, and will actually sit on your
lap, and bring their babies. |
|
| |
Team Games:
With Plane
Crash Rescue children are
given a map, showing where a plane has crashed, and where
they can find vines (rope)etc. They must find the survivor,
bandage his broken leg, and make a stretcher to carry
him back to safety.
With the Survival - Raft
Building game, Students
are given a map showing where they are lost in the bush.
They must find the river (our very shallow dam) and build
a raft to float down the river to safety. |
